Quick and easy creamy mango lassi

Lassi is a popular yogurt-based beverage, primarily enjoyed in the Indian subcontinent, particularly in the Punjab region. It's a creamy, smoothie-like drink made by blending yogurt with milk or water, and can be either sweet or savory. Sweet lassi is typically flavored with sugar and/or fruit, while savory lassi is seasoned with salt and spices like cumin. Lassi is rich in probiotics, calcium, and other nutrients that offer numerous health benefits, including aiding digestion, boosting immunity, and potentially aiding in weight management.

Mango Lassi can easily be made at home with only four ingredients:

  • mango (fresh, frozen, canned or pulp)

  • plain yogurt

  • milk (or water)

  • sugar

and spices to your liking such as cardamom, saffron, cinnamon or mint.

Make sure that you use very ripe, sweet and juicy mangoes (if you go for the fresh mangoes). Peel and cut the mango in pieces, blend with 4 tbsp of plain yogurt and some milk. I add milk (or water) according to how juicy the mango and how dense the yogurt is. I add a little milk (or water), blend, and check conistency. If the lassi is to thick, I add a bit more milk/water and blend for another few seconds. The final consistency of the drink, with added fruits, should be like a thick pancake batter. Add sugar (or rose syrup) and spices to your liking and blend some more. I usually taste it before adding sugar. Often it is not even necessary to sweeten it because the mango already is sweet enough. If you like your lassi extra cold, add some ice cubes before blending.

Lassi can also be made with other fruits such as bananas, strawberries, papayas,

Enjoy!
