Malaysia
Malaysia is one of the 17 megadiverse countries, meaning it is one of the world's top countries in terms of biodiversity, therefore home to numerous endemic species. Malaysia is the only country in the world to include territory on the mainland of Southeast Asia as well as on the islands that stretch between Asia and Oceania. Well known for its diverse cuisine and vibrant multiculturalism, blending Malay, Chinese and indigenous cultures, Malaysia boasts beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear water with colorful coral reefs, lush rainforests, high mountains and green valleys, and modern cityscapes.
In this blog I am sharing my experiences and travel tips as a female solo traveler discovering this beautiful country, hopefully inspiring your next trip to Malaysia.
Off the southeastern coast of Sabah, about 35 km from Semporna, lies the little island Mabul. Since the 1970s, the island has been a fishing village. The majority of the villagers are Bajau Laut, or “sea gypsies”, as they are often referred to, due to their nomadic lifestyle. Staying at Mabul Beach Resort, right next to their little floating village and learning about their way of life, I was deeply impressed by this subgroup of ethnic Sama-Bajau.
