Heavenly Calorie Bomb - Chocolate Cheesecake
In German, this tasty chocolate cheesecake is called “Russischer Zupfkuchen”, which translates to “Russian Pluck Cake”. However, this heavenly calorie bomb does not originate from Russia, but most probably from Germany. In Russia, they actually call it “German Cake”. The dark chocolate dough on top of the cake should look, unbaked, similar to the onion domes of Russian churches. But who cares! As long as the cake tastes good, and this chocolate cheesecake is absolutely delicious.
For the chocolate dough knead
300 g white flour
1 package baking powder
1 pinch of salt
200 g butter in pieces
1 egg
4 tbsp cocoa powder
into a smooth dough. If the dough gets to dry and crumbly, just add a tiny little bit of water at a time and keep kneading until it reaches the desired smoothness. Roll out 2/3 of the dough so that it fits into a springform pan with a diameter between 26 and 28 cm and a little edge.
For the filling mix
500 g curd
200 g liquid butter
3 eggs
1 package vanilla pudding powder
1 pinch of salt
in a large bowl until smooth. Distribute it evenly on the chocolate dough. Take the rest of the chocolate dough and either cut shapes with a cookie cutter oder just pluck it in pieces and gently place on top of the filling. Bake for an hour in the middle of the pre-heated oven at 180° C. In case of the cake getting too dark, cover it after 45 min with an aluminum foil and finish baking it covered.
This fantastic chocolate cheesecake tastes even better the day after baking. It can easily been frozen and crisped up in the oven or airfryer. Enjoy!
